Save Our Bacon with Jamie Oliver and the WSPA
Leave the first response January 28, 2009 / Posted in Animal Welfare, WSPAThe WSPA (World Society for the Protection of Animals) are urging their supporters to watch celebrity chef Jamie Oliver in Jamie Saves Our Bacon at 9pm on Thursday 29th January on Channel 4.
As part of The Great British Food Fight the show is an in depth investigation into the UK’s ailing pig industry. The same format as Jamie’s Fowl Dinners last year, the show aims to help us make better informed choices about the food we eat by showing exactly us how pigs live and die to put pork, ham and bacon on our plates.
Jamie will also look at the greater cost to UK farmers of meeting higher welfare standards which has left them open to competition from some mass producers from the EU, who minimise costs, but may have questionable levels of animal welfare compared to British standards.
