Christmas is the time of the year when people send charity cards, with most major charities in the UK benefiting from deals with card makers and even selling their own via their online shops like Unicef.

Personalised photo card specialists Photobox have announced they will be donating proceeds from the sale of their special NSPCC Christmas cards to the charity.

Help the NSPCC Give Every Child a Voice

It costs the NSPCC £4 to answer every call to ChildLine and £10 for every call to the NSPCC Helpline. Every call answered could save a child’s life. Currently, Childline is not able to answer all of the calls they receive and are desperately concerned for children who are not able to get through to them. This is where the Child’s Voice Appeal will help.

With the Child’s Voice Appeal, the NSPCC want to transform ChildLine and their own HelpLine to answer many more children’s cries for help. So that whether they call, email, text or contact the NSPCC online, there will always be someone there to listen and help. To make this happen, the Government is providing £30 million and the NSPCC need to raise a further £50 million – so they need your help!

You money will help the NSPCC to increase their call answer rate and talk to 90 per cent of the calls they receive every year from children. They also want to be able to pick up the phone to 80 per cent of the people who contact them on the adult helpline. Crucially, the NSPCC will expand their email and text counselling services so there will be more ways for children to get in contact with them.

£15 will pay for an hour’s counselling for a child, £50 pays for a traumatised child to have an hour with a social worker, £100 is 25 calls to Childline answered.

Download Geraldine and Help the NSPCC Be No.1 for Christmas

The race to be this years Christmas No 1 single seems to be between two very different versions of Hallelujah written by the great Leonard Cohen. There is a contender coming up the final straight in the form of Geraldine, winner of Britain’s Got the Pop Factor… and Possibly a New Celebrity Jesus Christ Soapstar Superstar Strictly on Ice with ‘Once Upon a Christmas Song’ in support of the NSPCC.

Released on Monday, the song is a yuletide spoof written by Peter Kaye and Gary Barlow, profits of which will be donated to the NSPCC. For every CD or DVD sold the NSPCC will receive a minimum of 30p, and 10p per download.

Christmas is just around the corner with the associated dilemma of what to buy your friends and family.
