Haiti Earthquake Appeal Celebrity Auction

Glastonbury Festival organiser Emily Eavis and Oxfam have put together a celebrity charity auction on eBay to raise money for their Haiti Earthquake Appeal. While you can’t actually nab yourself a celebrity in the auction, you can bid on some seriously cool stuff that has been generously donated by musicians, including Glastonbury VIP tickets, a Florence and the Machine Limited edition signed print and loads more.

The mighty Muse have donated the custom Tama drumkit that Dom used throughout the Black Holes & Revelations… 2006-2008 tour and is a serious bit of kit, ever more so if you are a Muse fan! The current winning bid stands at £2,500, though we fully expect this to go higher once we’ve cleared out the garage

The auction is open now and closes at 0900 on Tuesday 2 February with more items being added all the time. So head on over and while bagging yourself some great music and movie memorabilia, remember all proceeds will go to the Oxfam Haiti Earthquake Appeal.

Oxjam, Oxfams Music Festival Kicks off in October

Oxfam aim to raise money, end poverty and make good music this October with their month long music festival, Oxjam. This is no ordinary music festival where you pay through the nose for tickets for the pleasure of camping in a muddy field, trekking miles to see your favourite artist, then find your view blocked by a giant flag being waved manically by a stockbroker called Steve.

Oxjam is completely different, it is made up of hundreds of events taking place during October, organised by ordinary people, in local pubs, clubs and front rooms. There are events happening all over the country catering for all musical tastes, if it’s good music you’re after, you will most definitely find it at an Oxjam gig.

There are 24 main takeover events happening around the UK including the Oxjam Cardiff Takeover on Sunday 11th October, spread across four of Cardiff’s finest live music venues – Clwb Ifor Bach, Toucan, Dempseys, Y Fuwch Goch featuring the best of the Welsh musical scene.

The Oxjam Music Festival have posted a good luck message on You Tube to everyone taking part in this year’s festival. Quality tune, however look for the middle guy giving himself an injury at the end!

Arctic Monkeys Launch Crying Lightning Through Oxfam Stores

On August 17th, Sheffield band, The Arctic Monkeys will set a music industry first when the launch their new single Crying Lightning through the UK’s Oxfam stores. It will not be available in the mainstream stores like HMV and it’s the first single since Do They Know It’s Christmas, by Band Aid, to appear in Oxfam’s high street shops. The single will cost £2.99 and includes an MP3 version of the song so you can add it to your iPod or MP3 Player at no extra charge.

By selling the record Oxfam will be able to raise much needed funds and you can contribute further to their cause by dropping off old and unwanted singles and albums at your local shop.

David McCullough, Oxfam’s director of trading, said about the initiative:

“We were thrilled when we heard about the idea for the new Arctic Monkeys single and are delighted to be partnering with Domino on something that will be great for music fans, and help us raise money to fight poverty at the same time”.

Those Old Boots Were Made For Walking… Straight to Oxfam

The Mirror have today reported on a couple attempting a 220 mile walk from London to Birmingham for charity. Not so unusual, you may think, charity walks are pretty popular, however, this one is being done in the nude! Mark Stephenson and Fiona Lincoln are braving the chilly British weather to raise awareness of Clothes For A Cause appeal. The appeal is being run in conjunction with Oxfam and the Ordnance Survey Outdoors Show taking place in Birmingham from 27th-29th March at the NEC.

The shows organisers are encouraging visitors to bring their old walking gear and equipment to be donated to Oxfam and re-used in foreign aid projects. The couple started their hike on Sunday with only their hiking boots, socks and a rucksack each and hope to get to Birmingham by the time the show starts on Friday.

If you are attending the show, be sure to do your bit and donate any old walking boots and equipment. If you are interesting in buying recycled goods you can buy second hand items online from the Oxfam shop.

Oxfam Designer Handbag Sale Weekend!

All purchases will help Oxfam to tackle poverty across the world. We advise an early start as whilst the sale ends on 8th March 2009, the best deals will no doubt go very quickly.

Hopefully the 2009 Designer Bag Sale will run better than the 2008 one which saw the Oxfam server crashing under the weight of bargain hunters looking for a designer bag bargain.
