I Got Soul – Young Soul Rebels was released on October 19th in support of War Child. The song is a collaboration between some of Britain’s hottest urban music acts including Tinchy Stryder, Pixie Lott, N-Dubz and Chipmunk.

The tune will sound familiar as it’s based around the I Got Soul, But, I’m Not a Soldier hook line and according to the single’s website, the song is a rewritten version of the Killers track All These Things I’ve Done.

War Child is an international charity which works to help protect children who live in war zones around the world. They estimate there are 300,00 child soldiers around the world with some of them being as young as 9 years old. War Child want you to join their army to help children leave theirs.

If you were watching the return of Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway at the weekend, you will already know that this week’s challenge for ‘Ant v Dec: The Teams’ involves each team recording their own charity single! Ant and his team will be singing disco classic “Don’t Stop Moving” by S Club 7 and Dec’s team have 80’s mega hit Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go’ by Wham. The team who has their song downloaded the most number of times wins the challenge!

Both songs are raising money for three charities – Childline, Help the Aged and Teenage Cancer Trust and at least 44p from the cost of each download will go to charity. The downloads for the challenge will be counted at 5pm on Saturday 21st February and the winner will be announced during the show on 21st February.

As PJ & Duncan, the boys had quite a successful music career in the 90’s with the classic Let’s Get Ready to Rhumble being probably the most memorable. From listening to the charity efforts, they should definitely not give up the day jobs!

Barry Islands In The Stream Comic Relief Single for 2009

Probably one of the most anticipated musical events of the year takes place on Sunday, 8th March with the release of the official Comic Relief single. This year, it’s a complete treat for Gavin and Stacey fans as Ruth Jones and Rob Brydon reprise their magnificent duet Islands In the Stream.

According to The Mirror, the video for Barry Islands In the Stream follows Nessa and Bryn as they travel to Las Vegas to take part in the World Karaoke Championships, where they pick up some familiar backing singers in the shape of Sir Tom Jones and Robin Gibb!

Let’s Not Fight This Christmas by Chris Difford and the Decorations. The Decorations include the show’s presenters, Christine Bleakley, Adrian Chiles and the little dancer himself, John Sergeant. This song is available as a download-only single and Children in Need will receive a minimum of 20p for every download purchased.

Let them know on their blog whether you think it will be a hit or a miss! Unfortunately, the song did not make the Top 100 chart this week, so it is extremely unlikely to make it to number one for Christmas.

In recent years there seem to be less charity records at Christmas – could the dominance of the X Factor be to blame? Apart from Terry and Aled, there are no other charity records in the top 100. Will Christmas 2008 see the end of the charity single? Let’s hope not – buy Terry and Aled!

Katie Melua & Eva Cassidy Christmas Song

Katie Melua has recorded a unique duet with Eva Cassidy to give Tesco and The Red Cross a Christmas Charity record for 2007. What a Wonderful World is out now.

Tesco will donate all profits from sales of the single to the British Red Cross. The track is exclusively available at Tesco and can be downloaded from Tesco.com!

This year the Royal British Legion have embraced new ways to reach out for donations for the annual Poppy Appeal. For example you can show your support by adding a message at the bottom of each email you send (like the one at the top of this blog). You need to register your details and then attach a small piece of code to your email signature – this will remain active until just after Rememberance Day.

As well as email you can download Poppy wallpaper to your mobile! Text ‘Poppy’ to 85552 and donate £1.50 to the Poppy Appeal. This is suitable for WAP phones only. Details are available here.
